What do honeybees do in the winter?

Honeybees are active all year long.  You can see in the picture a couple of my colonies coming out for a cleansing flight after a bit of January snow.

Most of winter they are clustered to keep themselves warm but on mid 40's sunny days with little wind you'll see them out and about.

I find this a good time to see how the colonies are doing on food stores and add winter patties if necessary.

Even during the winter there's opportunities to work with your bees!
